The Peoples' Poll

Representatives Take Notice

This is an interactive political participation app. Every vote here counts the same, because every voice is equal.

Who runs SourcePoll

SourcePoll is operated by Shalma Tira, LLC, a Colorado company founded by Samuel Salmon.

How ID checks work

Gold members check their ID one time. The check is done by Stripe Identity, not by SourcePoll.

Stripe asks for a photo of your ID and a quick selfie. SourcePoll never sees or stores those pictures.

Stripe tells us if the check passed and gives us your date of birth. We use the date once to see if you are 18 or older. Then we save only the result (for example, "passed, 18 or older"). We do not save the date from your ID.

Stripe follows its own privacy policy.

What we store

  • Your signup: name, email, phone, birth date you typed, and home address.
  • Your state and voting districts, found from that address.
  • Your @account name, display name, and profile pictures if you add them.
  • A scrambled (hashed) password, never the password itself.
  • Your votes, comments, replies, likes, notes, and who you follow.
  • Your membership year and your ID check result.
  • Remembered devices (passkeys). These hold a public key only. Your face or fingerprint never leaves your device.

Card payments go through Stripe. We do not store your card number.

We do not sell your data

We never sell, rent, or share your individual votes or profile with campaigns, PACs, advertisers, or data brokers.

How votes are counted

Each member gets one vote per question. If you vote again, your new vote replaces your old one.

The totals you see are added up by the computer, straight from members' saved votes, every time results are shown. There is no tool on SourcePoll for staff to change a total. Votes from staff accounts are left out of the totals.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account on the Account page. First you confirm your email or phone with a code.

Deleting removes your signup and profile, your votes, comments, replies, likes, notes, follows, membership year, and remembered devices. Your votes stop counting in the totals.

Some things stay: Stripe keeps its own records of your payment and ID check, under its rules. Our database provider may keep short-term backups for a while before they expire.
